Travis Scott's Astroworld festival claimed the lives of 10 concertgoers when the crowd, which was 50,000 strong, surged forward toward the stage at Houston's NRG Park on Nov. 5.
Thursday (Dec. 16), the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmed "all 10 victims ... died from compression asphyxia," as relayed by Variety.
"One victim is cited as having a contributory cause of 'combined toxic effects of cocaine, methamphetamine and ethanol,' but the primarily cause for all of the victims was essentially being suffocated by external pressure — technically defined as 'respiration prevented by external pressure on the body,'" Variety's Jem Aswad and Ethan Shanfeld explained.
The victims have previously been identified as Ezra Blount, 9, John Hilgert, 14, Brianna Rodriguez, 16, Axel Acosta, 21, Jacob Jurinek, 21, Franco Patiño, 21, Bharti Shahani, 22, Madison Dubiski, 23, Rodolfo "Rudy" Peña, 23, and Danish Baig, 27.
Hundreds more were injured in the chaos.
Scott, 30, offered to cover all funeral costs, but several families declined to let him. There have been hundreds of lawsuits filed that name Scott, Drake and Live Nation, as well as others, and Scott has begun denying any legal liability in the tragedy.
The rapper discussed his side of the story with Charlamagne Tha God, shared last Thursday (Dec. 9), and it is his only sit-down interview since the event. Watch below.
