There is zero surprise in the fact that Miley Cyrus has released her latest album "Something Beautiful." It hasn't been a quiet leadup, with music videos being dropped for weeks and interviews being done. In one of those interviews, with Harper's Bazaar, she said of her new album, "My idea was making "The Wall," but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture. That would be Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Now that the album is out in full, you can see if that tracks when it comes to "Something Beautiful."
The album is laden with collaborators and guest appearances, an eclectic collection that speaks to her assorted interests and tastes. Sure, Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes is on the album. We all know Cyrus loves Howard (although their "SNL 50" collab is no longer legally available on YouTube). There's also Adam Granduciel from War on Drugs, Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Flea, and one of the Haim sisters. You'd think she would have gotten all three of them. Plus, Molly Rankin and Alec O'Hanley, the creative duo at the heart of Alvvays. We shout them out especially because Alvvays is a great band. They worked on "End of the World" on this album.
There's also apparently a companion film to "Something Beautiful," one that will actually get a theatrical release in June. For now, though you can spin the album.
