‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 2, Episode 1 Recap & Review: Clark Is Back

Like the final episode of season one, the My Adventures With Superman Premiere starts with Clark waking up from a nightmare. However, his dreams come with potentially important messages, including the return of his Kryptonian ship to Earth. Although his slumber may not have been restful, Clark has a busy day ahead of him at the Daily Planet.

Clark and Lois’ relationship is going strong in My Adventures With Superman Season 2, Episode 1. The two are no longer bumbling interns but full-on journalists now working together writing articles about Superman. While this is a major life change for them both, it’s the final member of their crew, Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid), undergoing the biggest transition. He is now incredibly wealthy and the head of the FlameBird Video Department at the Daily Planet since their company purchased his YouTube page.

To add to the busy schedule, it’s Valentine’s Day, and Clark’s coworkers are pressing him to ensure he delivers an epic event for his first holiday with Lois, but she doesn’t even remember the day has arrived. All the while, their boss, Perry White (Darrell Brown), demands they up their game, as Gotham’s Vicki Veil has been breaking the stories before the Daily Planet, causing them to miss out on breaking news.

Their quest leads them to S.T.A.R. Labs, where Lois has an old friend working on an interesting discovery. Along the way, Jimmy encounters a young Alex Luthor (Max Mittelman), whom he inspires to take his own path to follow his dreams. While Jimmy was just being kind, his aid in motivating the future villain will surely have a dangerous outcome beyond My Adventures With Superman Season 2, Episode 1.

Superman Faces His Toughest Challenges Yet

To make matters worse, the discovery at S.T.A.R. Labs is revealed to be the same ship Clark saw in his dream at the beginning of the episode, which has now crash-landed in Antarctica. It doesn’t take long for Clark to locate the remains, as he is courted there by a holographic program of Jor-El (Jason Marnocha), his birth father from Krypton.

His father explains Krypton’s origins and how the planet was destroyed in My Adventures With Superman Season 2, Episode 1. However, the story is different from what most Superman fans are used to, as the planet was destroyed due to war as opposed to natural disasters. Jor-El also reveals that Clark isn’t the lone remaining Kryptonian, as his cousin Kara, also known as Supergirl, was also sent to Earth.

Unfortunately, their reunion is short-lived as Jor-El reveals intruders are attempting to break into the ship. While Clark realizes this likely means Jimmy and Lois are in danger, they aren’t the only ones who snuck into the ship. Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson) arrives guns blazing alongside Deathstroke (Chris Parnell) to collect the Kryptonian technology.

Amid the chaos, Lois Lane overhears that her father is being held captive and interrogated by Amanda Waller. While Waller and Deathstroke quickly locate Kryptonite hidden on the ship, Jimmy sneakily steals it before they notice. Superman and the hologram of Jor-El fight off Waller and Deathstroke with the help of Jimmy and Lois, ultimately saving the day.

Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen Are the Heart of ‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 2, Episode 1

My Adventures With Superman Season 2, Episode 1 concludes with Clark and Lois enjoying a Valentine’s Day date under the Aurora Australis. Although the moment is sweet, the bliss is short-lived as Lois asks for Clark’s help saving her father, General Lane (Joel De La Fuente), the same man who tried to kill him last season, from Amanda Waller. To make matters worse, future threats are teased, including an incoming mysterious Kryptonian warrior and Deathstroke with Kryptonite residue on his swords.

While the new season’s first episode ends ominously, there’s a lot to be excited about the future of the series. My Adventures With Superman continues to be one of the very best adaptations of the character and a staple in animation. The series improves with each episode, and it hasn’t even introduced big-name characters seen in the trailers like Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl (Kiana Madeira).

If the My Adventures With Superman Premiere is any indication, season two is poised to be just as strong, if not better, than the already incredible season one. The hopeful nature accurately encapsulates the heart of what a Superman show should be, highlighted by the core of Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen, and most importantly, a perfect Lois Lane.
