Nancy Guthrie Case: JonBenét Ramsey’s Father Urges Family to ‘Scrutinize’ Investigators

JonBenét Ramsey‘s father, John Ramsey, can unfortunately relate to what Nancy Guthrie‘s family members are going through as she remains a missing person for more than three months. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings are desperately waiting for answers about what happened to their mom, a feeling John knows all too well, considering no one was ever charged in his daughter’s 1996 murder.

On the May 20 episode of NewsNation’s Brian Entin Investigates, host Brian Entin noted, “[John] can understand it in a way almost no one else can.”

When Entin asked Ramsey what advice he would give Nancy’s family, Ramsey pointed out that “police didn’t seek help from people who knew what they were doing” in the early days of the investigation. He noted, “It seemed like there was a little bit of a battle between the sheriff and the FBI and the sheriff kind of wanting to handle it himself. My thing is, why not let the FBI come in?”

He pointed out similarities in the investigation into JonBenét’s murder. “There’s lots of help offered, qualified help, in our case. It was all refused,” Ramsey claimed.

As for what he’d say to the Guthries now, Ramsey added, “Don’t assume the police are doing everything they can do. They may be, but don’t assume that. Don’t assume they know what they’re doing. They may, but don’t assume that. Really scrutinize and ask questions, [such as] what’s the status of the DNA? Do you have DNA that doesn’t match anybody in the family? What are you doing with it?”

He told the Guthries to “have an advocate” and urged them to have police “bring in all the resources they can bring in” to help with the investigation. Ramsey explained that police departments “can’t be good at everything,” which is why outside help can be beneficial in cases like this.

Nancy was last seen at her home in Arizona on January 31. She was reported missing the next day, and there have been no suspects named in the case thus far.
