Netflix drops official trailer for 'Nonnas' starring Vince Vaughn

Netflix has just shared the trailer and key art for Stephen Chbosky's Nonnas, which is inspired by the life story of Jody Scaravella. The film stars Vince Vaughn, who is also an executive producer, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Joe Manganiello, Drea de Matteo, Campbell Scott, Michael Rispoli, Linda Cardellini, and Susan Sarandon.

After the loss of his mother, a man risks everything to honor her by opening an Italian restaurant with a group of local grandmothers as the chefs.

"Vince and I got to actually go to the restaurant and be served by the nonnas and have dinner with the real-life Bruno and Joe, and so we got to hang out with those two guys for the night," Manganiello, who takes on the role of Bruno, explained to PEOPLE. "I love the fact that we made something with so much heart that is a celebration of the Italian-American experience through food."

"Family comes in many shapes, sizes, forms. It's not just the people that share your blood... Family is community. It's a coming together…. I grew up in a very Italian American family, and food was literally another language we spoke," writer Liz Maccie shared with Food & Wine. "So it was a way of expressing love on the most primal level, and I think food is a great way to bring family together and to care for each other."

Vaccaro, who portrays Antonella, reflected on the bond between the off-screen cast, saying, "It was one of the best times I've ever had on a film. The movie was joyous. You couldn't wait to go to work. The message was a reminder that you can always begin again."

Bracco, who plays Roberta, then added, "We love each other. We ate together. I mean, food is love. A friendship is love. Family is love. And I really hope that people walk away feeling that."

Nonnas will begin streaming May 9 on Netflix.
