The hit comedy series Leanne is officially coming back for a second season on Netflix after a breakout debut on July 31, 2025. The show, co-created and executive produced by comedian Leanne Morgan alongside Chuck Lorre and Susan McMartin, quickly won over audiences, spending two weeks on Netflix’s global Top 10 list and landing in the Top 10 in 13 different countries.
Leanne is a classic multi-camera sitcom following Leanne Murphy (played by Morgan), whose world flips upside down when her husband of 33 years leaves her for a younger woman. With support from her quirky family, sister Carol (Kristen Johnston), mom Margaret (Celia Weston), and dad John (Blake Clark), Leanne tackles heartbreak with equal parts humour and heart. It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, and it’s resonated with fans who’ve been rooting for her fresh start.
Morgan celebrated the Season 2 news with a heartfelt thank-you to the writers, producers, Warner Bros. Television, her castmates, and especially fans. “Y’all did this for us, and we can’t wait to be back!” she said to the Hollywood Reporter. Lorre praised Morgan as “a comedic genius, a warm, loving human being and an absolute joy to work with.”
Season 1 ran for 16 episodes, and Season 2 is expected to follow a similar format, likely dropping sometime in 2026 (though Netflix hasn’t confirmed an exact date yet).
The renewal is especially notable because multi-cam sitcoms have historically struggled to gain traction on streaming platforms. Leanne now joins the rare club of Netflix multi-cam successes like The Ranch, Fuller House, and The Upshaws. With their lower production costs and the slow-burn nature of audience growth, Netflix seems to be showing more patience with sitcom renewals.
And Morgan’s not stopping there, she’s set to release another stand-up special on Netflix titled Unspeakable Things in November 2025, following her 2023 special I’m Every Woman, with yet another special planned for 2027.
