Netflix renews 'The Four Seasons' for a second season

It's time for another trip: The Four Seasons will officially return for a season 2! The news was announced at Netflix's Upfront presentation and makes sense considering where the first season ended.

"We are so grateful that audiences worldwide share our love of cozy sweaters, drinks by the ocean, and picking fights in a hot tub," co-creators and co-showrunners Tina Fey, who also directs, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield said in a statement. "See you on our next vacation together!"

Six old friends head for a relaxing weekend away only to learn that one couple in the group is about to split up. The three couples, Kate and Jack, Nick and Anne, and Danny and Claude, are completely upended by the news. Over the course of a year, we follow the friends on four vacations, and watch how this shake-up affects everyone’s dynamic — sending old issues and new bubbling to the surface.

After Nick's shocking death in a car accident, we find out that Ginny is pregnant with their baby. It is unclear if Steve Carell could possibly return in flashbacks, but it is expected that Fey, Erika Henningsen, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, and Marco Calvani will reprise their roles.

Fey explained to TUDUM that they decided to have Nick die because "in a way, it just works. Steve’s character is the character that was like, ‘I only live once, life is short. I’m going to do what I want.’ And he was right." Carell was "really sad" about his character's fate, commenting, "everybody is so delightful and nice, and with any luck they get to continue on with this story."

While he knew from the beginning, his other co-stars did not until episode 7's table read. "When we got on that Zoom, everybody was so sad," Kenney-Silver expressed while Domingo called the death a "punch in the gut."

The Four Seasons is based on the 1981 movie of the same title. All episodes of season 1 are currently streaming.
