Netflix reveals release date for 'People We Meet on Vacation' starring Tom Blyth and Emily Bader

Ready to go on a summer trip with Poppy and Alex? Tom Blyth and Emily Bader star in People We Meet on Vacation, based on Emily Henry's highest-selling novel, which has sold over 2 million copies in the US since being published in 2021.

"I watched their chemistry read four times in 12 hours and I loved it more every single time," the author told Netflix, referring to the rom-com's lead actors. "The very first time I was laughing out loud, and I got so emotional by the end."

Free-spirited Poppy (Bader) and routine-loving Alex (Blyth) have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?

The rest of the cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Miles Heizer, Tommy Do, Alice Lee, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon.

"I’ve been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters," Henry continued to express. "I truly could not feel more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex."

In an interview with Vogue, she mentioned, "I keep getting a lot of questions about if a lot had to change and how I feel about that, and the truth is one of the things I’m most excited about with the People We Meet on Vacation adaptation is that there are some new scenes that are so wonderful and that for readers mean they get extra Alex and Poppy content that didn’t previously exist. It all works, but it’s new. And that’s just a really fun treat I didn’t expect to feel this excited about."

Blyth is recognized for his performance as Coriolanus Snow in 2023's The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Bader most recently starred as Lady Jane Grey in My Lady Jane, which you can watch on Prime Video.

Brett Haley's People We Meet on Vacation will be released on January 9, 2026.
