Netflix's 'My Oxford Year' starring Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest gets August release date

Netflix has revealed new first-look images of My Oxford Year starring Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest. The film is based on Julia Whelan's novel, which was adapted from Allison Burnett's original screenplay. Iain Morris directs with Dougray Scott, Catherine McCormack, Harry Trevaldwyn, Esmé Kingdom, Nikhil Parmar, and Poppy Gilbert making up the rest of the cast.

When Anna, an ambitious young American woman, sets out for Oxford University to fulfill a childhood dream, she has her life completely on track until she meets a charming and clever local who profoundly alters both of their lives.

Carson, who is also an executive producer, told TUDUM, "I chose not to visit all the locations where we would be filming because I wanted to save my honest reaction to witnessing the magic of Oxford for the first time, for once the cameras were rolling to truly experience Oxford just as Anna would."

Morris opened up about Carson and Mylchreest's chemistry, expressing, "They bounced off each other from the first moment they worked together and clearly enjoyed trying to make each other laugh — and maybe cry? I hope watching the film allows the audience to run through all the emotions associated with the wonderful, noisy, chaotic, unexpected, funny, heartbreaking experience that is falling in love."

As for Carson, she also shared that she "watched Queen Charlotte in awe of Corey," adding, "He’s an extraordinary force of an actor. When it came time to cast Jamie, I always knew it would be Corey. As soon as he walked into the room for our chemistry read in London, Anna and Jamie came to life. Instantly. Corey was a true partner in this experience . . . And together we were dedicated to diving into Anna and Jamie’s love story, to bring it to life with every bit of our hearts."

My Oxford Year premieres August 1 on Netflix.
