"Pride and Prejudice" is probably the best-known, best-loved Jane Austen novel. With all due respect to ostensible protagonist Elizabeth Bennet, the definitive character from the story is her roguish love interest Mr. Darcy. Playing Mr. Darcy in a BBC miniseries effectively made Colin Firth a star.
Netflix, which previously produced a film adaptation of Austen's novel "Persuasion," has a "Pride and Prejudice" series in the works. While nothing is official, Variety says that the actor Jack Lowden is in talks to step into the role of Mr. Darcy.
If the name is familiar but you can't place him, Lowden is best known for playing one of the leads of "Slow Horses." He's the one who plays River Cartwright. The other guy is Gary Oldman. Oldman would be a weird choice to play Mr. Darcy at this point in his life.
All things considered, it does feel like Lowden would be good for the role. Netflix will assuredly be looking to cast known names, as opposed to breaking an actor, Firth style. Of course, nothing is official yet, and any talk of the role of Elizabeth Bennet is fully in the purely-rumor realm. The fifth season of "Slow Horses" is expected to be released on Apple TV+ this year, though. In case you need a Lowden fix.
