Netflix is entering a new frontier with its reimagining of Little House on the Prairie. The series, based on the classic Laura Ingalls Wilder books, will take us along with the Ingalls family as they settle in Independence, Kansas.
TV Insider can exclusively reveal a brand-new teaser and photos from the upcoming Netflix show, which will premiere on July 9. As we see glimpses of the Ingalls finding their way in the American West and the town of Independence, we hear Laura (Alice Halsey) seemingly addressing the town.
“Independence is a funny name for a town like this,” she begins. “The truth is, none of us can make it alone here. The prairie is so big, and we’re so small. We need help from each other. Independence isn’t just a way of life. It’s a place to come together.”
Laura is embracing this next chapter with her family, which includes Mary (Skywalker Hughes), Charles (Luke Bracey), and Caroline (Crosby Fitzgerald). Mary and Laura’s parents can be seen sweetly staring into each other’s eyes on the front doorstep of their home. They’ve left the life they knew behind to start anew, and they’ll be able to face anything with each other’s support.
Photos also reveal Charles and Caroline crossing paths with Dr. George Tann (Jocko Sims) and Mr. Edwards (Warren Christie). The 2026 version of Little House on the Prairie will also be incorporating new characters, including Mitchell (Meegwun Fairbrother), White Sun (Alyssa Wapanatahk), and Good Eagle (Wren Zhawenim Gotts).
Wilder’s iconic novels were first brought to the screen in NBC’s Little House on the Prairie series, which ran from 1974 to 1983 and starred Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, and Melissa Sue Anderson. The Netflix series is a “fresh adaptation” that “offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.” See our exclusive photos below and watch the complete teaser above.
