Actually, more than 2,000 people sent complaints to the Federal Communications Commission after Bad Bunny performed during the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show in Santa Clara. Most of the complaints came from Texas, Florida, and California.
The NFL announced Bad Bunny as the halftime performer in September 2025. He performed for about 15 minutes at Levi’s Stadium during the Super Bowl in February, and the show quickly created strong reactions online and among viewers.
Some fans enjoyed the performance, while others felt it was not appropriate for families and children watching at home.
Before the Super Bowl, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended the league’s decision to choose Bad Bunny for the halftime show.
“He’s one of the most popular entertainers in the world,” Goodell said during a news conference. “It’s carefully thought through. I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. We’re confident it’s going to be a great show. I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment.”
Texas filed the highest number of complaints over the Super Bowl halftime show. Viewers from the state submitted 226 complaints to the FCC. Florida followed with 182 complaints, while California recorded 156.
Many viewers focused on the performance’s content and themes. One complaint called the show a “violent horror advertisement during family broadcast.”
Another viewer wrote, “There were children watching this. It was horrible and shocking that this would be allowed. Very indecent! This is not okay or normal.”
One complaint from Houston compared the show to the infamous Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy involving Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
“I, as I am sure millions of other Americans, feel the same that the halftime show lyrics, though not in English, were highly inappropriate for any viewing audience,” the viewer wrote. “This was magnitudes worse than the Timberlake/Janet Jackson show.”
Bad Bunny, however, stood proudly behind the performance after the game. The NFL also continued to support the show despite the backlash.
