You just can’t keep a Great Dane down. Not when that Great Dane is Scooby-Doo, who has been going strong in one cartoon series after another for over 55 years. And according to a report from IGN, Scoob and his buddies in the Mystery, Inc. gang will soon return in an anime-inspired series. Warner Bros. Animation revealed the news at a franchise event in Brazil, where the studio participated. The name of the series, currently set to debut in 2027, is Scooby-Doo! Gokko. The term “Gokko” usually refers to a super-deformed, chibi-style take on beloved characters.
This might be a reimagining of an earlier announced series, called Go-Go Mystery Machine, which we first heard about in 2024. Based on the early concept art, that series looked more like a more traditional anime than the Gokko style. It’s quite possible Go-Go Mystery Machine is still happening, and is a long-form series, while Scooby-Doo! Gokko is a series of web shorts. This would make it similar to another Warner Bros. Animation project, Tom and Jerry Gokko. That project took a more slapstick comedy approach, and the studio geared it toward a very young audience.

Ever since Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! first appeared on the ABC Network in 1969, the talking dog and his mystery-solving teenage friends have starred in over a dozen TV series. Not to mention a metric ton of animated movies, and several live-action films as well. Not too long ago, Netflix announced a live-action streaming “origin story” series, but we haven’t heard much about that one lately. It could certainly become another breakout hit for the streamer, banking on nostalgia, much like Wednesday. Surprisingly, the series wasn’t announced for HBO Max, since the Scooby-Doo IP is owned by Warner Bros. We can probably expect more news on Scooby-Doo! Gokko in the coming months.
