Nickelodeon’s beloved teen sitcom iCarly is finally heading for closure. After years of silence and that cliffhanger ending, fans of Miranda Cosgrove are getting what they’ve hoped for: an official iCarly movie, set to begin filming in early 2026. The script is nearly done, and its biggest twist is the long-awaited introduction of Carly’s mother, a character never seen before. Cosgrove, returning as Carly and serving as executive producer, says the team is being extra careful with casting to get this pivotal role just right.

Nickelodeon Roots and Lasting Impact

Back in 2007, iCarly first hit the airwaves on Nickelodeon, instantly becoming a staple of after-school TV. It captured the chaos and charm of teenage life in a way that felt fresh at the time, with random skits, weird inventions, and plenty of heart. Over six seasons, it built a massive fan base and left a lasting mark on pop culture. Even after the series ended in 2012, reruns kept pulling in new viewers, and fans never stopped wondering what happened to their favourite characters once the cameras stopped rolling.

The Road to the iCarly Movie

Nearly a decade later, Paramount+ decided to test the waters with a reboot in 2021, bringing back the original cast but aged up for a now-adult audience. The revival ran for three seasons before getting abruptly cancelled in October 2023, right after a cliffhanger that revealed Carly and Freddie were about to get married. That unfinished ending left longtime fans frustrated and hungry for more.

The upcoming iCarly movie is meant to tie up those dangling storylines. A huge part of that will be introducing Carly and Spencer’s elusive mother for the very first time. Cosgrove has called this casting choice “one of the biggest challenges” because the character’s absence has been a mystery for years. Whoever steps into that role could completely reshape how fans see the Shay family dynamic.

What Fans Can Expect Next

While production won’t officially start until early 2026, the script is reportedly almost finished, and casting news should start trickling out soon. Cosgrove has told the Hollywood Reporter saying about returning to the role has been “really cool, but kind of strange and crazy,” especially now that she has more creative input behind the scenes. She seems determined to make sure the story gives longtime fans the closure they’ve been waiting for.

So, while the wait might be long, it finally looks like the iCarly universe is getting the send-off it deserves, and this time, Carly’s mom will actually be part of it.
