Nicole Kidman has finally spoken up about a very difficult time in her life. The actress is opening up to the public about her divorce from country music star Keith Urban for the first time. She filed for divorce from Urban back in September 2025. The former couple finalized their divorce four months later on Jan. 6.

Kidman talked with Variety for an interview published on March 11, in which she spoke about her upcoming “Practical Magic” film sequel, Prime Video series “Scarpetta,” and her personal life over the past year. When asked if she was doing alright after a rough year personally, she told Variety, “I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good. What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that. Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect.”

It was a measured answer. Deliberate. But it said more than it seemed to. Kidman, 58, chose her words with precision. She acknowledged the difficulty of the past year without dramatizing it. She protected her daughters without dismissing the pain. And she made one thing very clear — the family unit, however redefined, remains intact.

Sunday Rose is 17. Faith Margaret is 15. They are growing up, and Kidman knows it. Watching your daughters grow into young women while simultaneously watching a marriage dissolve — that’s not something a press tour fixes. That’s something you carry quietly, along with going through the difficult process of getting a divorce.

A Marriage That Spanned Nearly 20 Years

Kidman and Urban first met in January 2005 at a Hollywood event honoring Australians in the entertainment industry. The stars exchanged numbers, but Urban didn’t call Kidman back for four months. In a 2017 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Kidman said in a statement obtained by People, “I had such a crush on him, and he wasn’t interested in me. It’s true!” “He didn’t call me for four months.”

They married in June 2006 at a private ceremony in Sydney, Australia. What followed was nearly two decades of life built together — red carpet appearances, music tours, award shows, and above all, a home and family in Nashville, Tennessee.

Court records confirm that Kidman filed for divorce in Davidson County, Tennessee, in September 2025. The filing cited “irreconcilable differences,” a standard legal phrase that nonetheless signals the quiet collapse of something that once seemed built to last. The couple had already reached an agreement on the division of their personal property before the filing became public.

By Jan. 6, 2026, the divorce was finalized. Under the terms of the settlement, Kidman was granted primary custody of their two daughters at their Nashville-area residence. Both parties agreed to hold joint responsibilities for major decisions regarding the lives of their daughters moving forward.

What Comes Next for Nicole Kidman

Her Prime Video series “Scarpetta,” based on Patricia Cornwell’s crime novels, is already generating awards buzz. And back home — in Nashville, wherever these girls call home — Kidman is doing what she has always done best: showing up.
