"Night at the Museum" reboot in the works

No successful franchise is allowed to lay fallow these days, and the latest resurrection is the "Night at the Museum" franchise. Resurrected not unlike a mummy coming to life overnight at a magical museum. The three live-action movies, which came out between 2006 and 2014, grossed over $1 billion collectively, so it's not surprising that a reboot is in the offing.

In the first film, Ben Stiller plays a divorced dad who gets a job as a night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History, a very movie job to have. Stuff comes to life, wacky antics ensue, and then they figured out justifications for having it happen two more times. With Stiller, that is. In 2022 an animated movie "Night of the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again" was dropped on Disney+, with the premise being that Stiller's character's son is taking over as the night watchman. Stiller didn't lend his voice to the movie, though.

This movie is live-action, and is being positioned as a reimagining, which is to say it's a reboot that allows them to do the same stuff with a new character who isn't Ben Stiller. One also assumes they won't get Oscar winner Rami Malek back, and sadly Robin Williams can't pop up as Teddy Roosevelt again.

It seems unlikely there will be any reinventing of the wheel with this reboot. It'll be the same general plot points but with different actors and characters. Which, hey, fair enough. It's not like "Night of the Museum" is some sacred franchise. Just don't make a bad movie and it'll be all good.
