Olivia Colman, who won the Best Actress Oscar for "The Favourite," has been attached to the planned limited series "Cry Wolf" since this winter. The show is now officially a go at FX, and Colman also has her primary co-star. That would be Brie Larson, who won the Best Actress Oscar for "Room."
"Cry Wolf" is described as a psychological thriller, and the plot has been laid out as such:
A social worker (Colman) and a mother (Larson) thrust into crisis when the mother’s teenage daughter alleges abuse, pushing both women to their limits as they navigate an impossible situation.
There must be something in the air, as "Cry Wolf" seems not entirely dissimilar from the upcoming Luca Guadagnino movie "After the Hunt" in that creatives again seem comfortable grappling with the fact that sometimes people lie about disturbing things.
"Cry Wolf" comes to us from Sarah Treem, who also co-created and ran "The Affair," a show that also dealt with lies and different assertions of the reality of circumstances. In terms of the cast, getting two Oscar winners for your FX limited series is a strong start. Sure, more and more acclaimed movie actors are doing TV. Cate Blanchett just got herself an Emmy nomination for a limited series. Doesn't mean the casting of Colman and Larson isn't encouraging.
