While promoting season 2 of The Last of Us , Pedro Pascal discussed his appearance on Saturday Night Live 's 50th anniversary special. His "Domingo: Vow Renewal" sketch was with Sabrina Carpenter, Marcello Hernández, Bad Bunny, Chloe Fineman, Martin Short, Molly Shannon, and more.
"My nightmare of karaoke," Pascal joked to Entertainment Weekly. "I was the first record scratch of the night by missing my cues like three times in a row."
Carpenter, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman started the sketch with a "Defying Gravity"-themed parody song, then went into a "You Belong with Me" parody with Domingo coming out.
Matt's groomsmen, aka Bowen Yang, Andy Samberg, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett, then came out to sing their own "Espresso" parody with the singer herself and introduce Pascal's Renaldo.
Pascal said that Carpenter "was so game," and that right before they went on, she shared a last-minute note: "She's like, 'I'm going to be grinding on you hard.' And I was like, 'You do whatever you want.' And then, before I knew it, we were up on stage. It's kind of like an outer body experience that I can barely recall outside of my f--- up."
"I remember thinking, 'F---! I f---- it up!' I was really, really upset with myself for missing the cues. I feel like there was a cognitive and auditory failure on my part where I was so nervous [that] I really couldn't hear what was happening or what the cue was. I guess no matter what kind of singing and how bad or funny it's supposed to be, I have just sheer terror of having to sing in any kind of capacity."
The actor had missed his cue to start signing, leading to him saying, "Hey, Matt. Hey, hey, Matt." However, audiences loved it regardless, and he still considers SNL his "favorite place to be."
