Phil Collins Makes Rare Public Appearance After Revealing He’s Under 24-Hour Care

Phil Collins recently made a rare public appearance after revealing in January that he’s under 24-hour care in an honest health update.

On May 15, the former Genesis frontman’s ex-wife, Jill Collins, posted a photo via Instagram of herself posing with Phil, Rod Stewart, and Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, at Buckingham Palace. They were at The King’s Trust 50th anniversary event, held on May 11.

In the snap, Phil, 75 — who retired from drumming in 2022, after severe nerve damage left him unable to hold drumsticks — stood between Jill and Stewart while using forearm crutches. He wore a black suit and a red tie for the occasion.

“Despite the downpours of torrential rain, which did not seem to dampen the festivities, @officialphilcollins and I were very proud and honored to be there and have a few private moments with King Charles, who seemed genuinely pleased to see Phil, who was the very first ambassador 40 years ago and a trustee even before that!” Jill captioned her update.

In the comments, fans were thrilled to see a rare glimpse of Phil. One Instagram user wrote, “Fantastic to see Phil looking so good.”

Someone else shared, “Phil is looking fabulous! Out and about and doing what he loves…keep it up, Phil! I know you can do it!!”

Another fan pointed out, “This post has made my day. Jill, you look amazing, and it’s so good to see the two of you together. It’s especially good to see Phil out and about. Good luck with the auction

Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user commented, “Ohhhh, Phillllll

.”

In January, Phil opened up about his health in the wake of a 2007 spinal injury that resulted in nerve damage.

“You know, I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do,” he told Zoe Ball for BBC’s Eras podcast, per The Independent. “I’ve had challenges with my knee… I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me.”

Phil added, “I can walk, albeit with assistance, you know, crutches or whatever.”

Jill and Phil were married from 1984 to 1996 and share a daughter, actress Lily Collins.
