Does Pierce Brosnan's very specific Irish accent in MobLand bother you? For some folks, as Conrad Harrigan, Brosnan is laying it on a bit too thick, to the point where the accent itself doesn't really sound realistic. Conrad is supposed to be from a part of Ireland called Kerry, whereas Brosnan was born in Drogheda. And while some have mocked the accent for not being realistic enough, Brosnan has recently defended his efforts.

"I just gave it full tilt," Brosnan said in an interview with The Radio Times. "My own accent is very soft. Conrad’s accent is a million miles away from me.”

This assessment dovetails with what Brosnan told Men's Journal when MobLand began. "When [producer] Guy Ritchie started talking to me about the character, he said, 'Don't worry about it.'" Brosnan revealed. "Of course, I didn't do that. I put the phone down and worried about the voice of the character. How am I going to play it?"

Eventually, as Brosnan has told various journalists, he told the dialect coach that he wanted the character to have an Irish accent from Kerry. According to Brosnan, the dialect coach told him to study an old Irish politician. "I spent 15 minutes listening to this guy, and then we went back to the set and I did the scene, and the character was born there," Brosnan said. "But it was born there because Guy gave me the freedom to do that."

Essentially, Conrad Harrigan is not meant to represent a real person, and certainly not meant ot represent Pierce Brosnan's real voice. As he told The Radio Times and as he told Men's Journal at the start of MobLand, this was a character created to inhabit a slightly heightened, almost surreal fictional setting.

"It didn't feel like it was of this period of time," Brosnan told Men's Journal. "I think the show has a mythology to it. It felt like Macbeth. There's a theatricality to it, which prevailed over the entire set and the cast."

The MobLand finale airs on Paramount+ on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
