Soon enough, Charlie Cale and her remarkable ability to tell who is lying will be back on Peacock. The second season of "Poker Face," the "Columbo"-indebted series starring Natasha Lyonne and crafted by Rian Johnson, debuts on May 8. Once again, the case-a-week nature of the show (and the budget Comcast gave Johnson and company) means a ton of guest stars. Those guest stars are highlighted in the first full, official trailer for season two of "Poker Face."
It seems Charlie's country-crossing adventures, which end up with her stumbling on a Jessica Fletcher-level of murders, are going to be quite interesting. John Mulaney is playing an FBI agent! Look at Kumail Nanjiani's get-up! Giancarlo Esposito is doing very Giancarlo Esposito things!
There's a baseball team in a mix for one episode, and a "Bad Seed"-esque evil girl in another. Plus, one assumes, the overarching story that was laid out in the finale of the first season. Charlie always has somebody out to get her, which is why she has to keep moving.
"Poker Face" proved to be an excellent vehicle for what Lyonne does best in season one, and hopefully season two delivers more of the same. Sometimes creatives will read their press clippings too much and veer too much into what people thought stood out about the first season. That's how you end up with something like season two of "Ted Lasso." Or, there may be the impulse to overstuff things and that throws the balance out of whack.
That's not to indicate this trailer yields any concerns. We will be opening up Peacock on May 8 to check out the first episode of the season. If Charlie Cale were here, she'd know we aren't lying.
