The final trailer is here at last for Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands. And if what we see here is any indication, then Trachtenberg might have just outdone his last film in this franchise, Prey. This movie does what no Predator film has done before, making the alien hunter the protagonist and not the villain. And this time, he’s joined by a synthetic android (Elle Fanning), which appears to be made by the Weyland-Yutani company. Thus, it ties this film explicitly into the Alien universe. You can watch the full final trailer for Predator: Badlands below:
We also have a brand new poster for Predator: Badlands, as well as an official synopsis from Twentieth Century Studios to accompany the trailer:
Set in the future on a deadly remote planet, Badlands follows a young Predator outcast (played by newcomer Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) who finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Elle Fanning) as he embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
In this trailer, we see the young Predator (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) dispatched to “the most dangerous planet in the galaxy.” It’s clearly a place where all manner of animal and plant life can kill you. It’s clear this movie is going to introduce a metric ton of new extraterrestrial species to the franchise. Somehow, a Weyland-Yutani android is on this planet as well, looking a little worse for wear. This officially ties the Predator franchise in with the Alien franchise again, after the decanonization of the previous AvP movies.
It will be interesting to learn where this lands on the Alien franchise timeline, or if it ties into Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth. After all, the Weyland-Yutani company plays a big role in that series. We also see several other synthetic beings, and even a machine that looks a lot like the load lifter Ripley used in Aliens. Easter eggs and tie-ins aside, Badlands looks like everything we could want from a Predator film.
Predator: Badlands arrives in theaters everywhere on November 7.
