2019's "Ready or Not" was a fun, well-received horror-comedy that proved to be a a surprise hit. It speaks to why horror is such a popular genre for studios. "Ready or Not" looks good, but they made it for $6 million so when it made $57.6 million that qualified as a big success. That has led to a sequel, one with the same writers and directors. Also, the cast has added a couple notable names that make sense for a horror movie: Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood.
First off, we fully sign off on this movie entirely because it is titled "Ready or Not: Here I Come." Remember when "Now You See Me" got a sequel and it was called "Now You See Me 2" and not "Now You Don't." That's what they have titled the upcoming third movie, but probably only because they got raked over the coals for not doing in the first time. They didn't make that mistake here. 10/10, no notes.
In the original, Samara Weaving plays a bride-to-be who meets the in-laws and, well, you know how it goes. They hunt you down for sport as part of some Devil worship nonsense. Weaving is back for the sequel, which is good because she's a talented actress and cooked in "Ready or Not." We're a bit concerned about one bit of casting for the sequel, Kathryn Newton. Not because we don't like her as an actress, we do! However, she and Weaving definitely have the capacity to be confused for one another. We don't want to be playing a game of "Who's who?" while watching the sequel. Then again, maybe that plays into the plot of "Here I Come."
You know, Gellar, forever best known as Buffy from the (inferior) TV version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," kind of looks similar as well. Maybe Weaving, Newton, and Gellar are playing family? We'd be on board for that.
As for Wood, while you may know him best as Frodo Baggins, the dude loves horror movies. He can expound on the genre with eloquence, but also take a look at his filmography sometime. It's packed with acting roles, and producing roles, for low-budget, indie horror movies. He's in "The Monkey" and (spoiler-ish alert) he's in it for like three minutes. That's Wood just loving the genre, and that makes him a perfect inclusion for "Here I Come."
The movie just began filming, but it will be here soon enough. Get ready.
