After four seasons, USA Network has decided to cancel Resident Alien, which is based on the comic book by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse and first premiered in 2021.
"I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season," creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan explained to TV Insider. "Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series."
Thankfully, Sheridan shared that the finale “gives Resident Alien a very satisfying ending while also leaving the door cracked open for any future this world may have. I can’t wait for everyone to see it."
During the show's first, and sadly last, San Diego Comic-Con panel at Hall H, Alice Wetterlund and Sara Tomko spoke about the news.
"We know that you guys deserve more than you’re getting on a lot of shows and movies. The industry is in disarray and it’s been disrupted," Wetterlund commented. "Thanks, tech. In a world where TV were normal, we could have way more. The only reason that’s not true is not because anybody behind the show doesn’t want it. It’s because the way the industry works now. You guys deserve more of this."
Tomko added, "I’m going to miss the beautiful routine and consistency. As an actor you don’t get that a lot in our business. It’s our version of a nine-to-five — that comfort you get when you walk in and everybody knows your name."
The cast also includes Alan Tudyk, Corey Reynolds, Elizabeth Bowen, Levi Fiehler, Judah Prehn, and Meredith Garretson. New episodes of the fourth and final season air Fridays on USA and SYFY.
