Family, once again, takes the spotlight in the newest episode of Rick and Morty. But instead of only one, we get two adventures in this week’s Season 8 installment. Morty manages to reconnect with a family he hadn’t seen in a long time. At the same time, Rick has a grandfather-granddaughter lunch date that gets out of hand. The best part of this episode is that it brings a character from Season One. Want to find out who it is and what happened this week?

Rick and Morty Equals Family Mayhem

In this Rick and Morty episode, Morty gets a call from his son, Morty Jr. He’s in the hospital and wants his father’s help in reconciling with his robot mother. Their journey takes them to Rick’s garbage world ruled by an AI. The estranged father and son bond as they discover a civilization of Rick’s discarded inventions. They find Junior’s mother, but a deteriorating robot seeking escape soon snatches Morty. Afterward, Junior rescues him, and they lead a rebellion against the tyrannical garbage-sorting program.

During this time, Rick and Summer have lunch at a restaurant with precognitive chefs. Summer gets upset after being served avocado toast and then confronts the cooks. Rick, on the other hand, becomes enamored with the precogs, leading to Summer becoming jealous. This development leads to her kidnapping the precogs with Rick in hot pursuit.

Returning Character Continues Season Theme

The major highlight of this episode is, obviously, Morty Jr.’s return. He’s Morty’s half-Gazorpian offspring born from an attractive breeding robot from Season One. And he hasn’t been seen since the after-credits scene of his debut.

His reappearance leads to the two Smith men reconciling and strengthening their relationship. Something that’s a recurring theme throughout the entirety of Season 8. Maybe we’ll see it continue in the following arc of Rick and Morty.

Final Verdict and Thoughts

After giving it much thought, I give this Rick and Morty episode a full 10! It brought back a one-time Season One character while offering the titular characters separate adventures. Plus, there were some delightful references to older episodes on Rick’s garbage planet. And the Summer-Rick subplot was a fun parody of the one from A Rickconvenient Mort. This installment was one of Season 8’s most entertaining yet. I’m excited to see how next week’s season finale goes!
