Roku regularly updates its free channel offerings, which are available to users with Roku TVs and Roku Players. In the latest update, Roku has added 15 channels without cost.
According to Cord Cutters News, the 15 new channel options on The Roku Channel cover a variety of genres, including sports, breaking news, reality television, comedy and more. The move comes after Roku recently added 34 free channels centered on classic television programming.
"By adding these channels for free, the service helps families, students, and casual viewers cut down on entertainment costs while discovering new favorites," explains Cord Cutters' Luke Bouma. "Roku TVs and Players are already in millions of households, and the platform’s seamless integration means users can switch between live channels, on-demand titles, and personalized recommendations without leaving the app. The addition also strengthens Roku’s position in the competitive streaming landscape, where free ad-supported television continues to attract cord cutters seeking alternatives to paid services."
Prior to this announcement, Roku's most recent update consisted of adding 34 channels, each one dedicated to an iconic television show.
The shows included black-and-white options like Lassie, Leave It to Beaver, Rawhide, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and The Carol Burnett Show, along with 1970s and 80s classics like Little House on the Prairie, The Joy of Painting, Emergency!, In the Heat of the Night, Murder, She Wrote and Unsolved Mysteries.
Lastly, the service also debuted some options from 90s through the 2010s, including Baywatch, Home Improvement, Bones, Heartland and The Goldbergs.
