When it comes to zombie comedy films, there are certain ones that stand far above the oversaturated crowd. I think we can all agree that Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland are two of those movies. They honor the genre with enough gore and amp up the jokes for a wonderfully funny romp. And, to me, Zombieland: Double Tap is a pretty darn good sequel considering how hard it is to capture that right energy in a bottle twice. Now, director Ruben Fleischer is hoping to do yet another sequel with Zombieland 3, and he’s aiming for a 2029 release date.

He revealed this during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. And, it makes sense considering that the other two films dropped in 2009 and 2019. Every ten years is a wild stretch but hey, anything is possible in the world of film.

“We always talk about it,” Fleischer said. “Last month was the 16th anniversary of Zombieland, and an email went around among the cast and producer and writers. Everybody expressed their desire to make another one. 2029 is when we always said that it should come out because the second one [in 2019] was ten years after the first one. When we were making the second one, we all agreed we should do this thing again in ten years. So we’ve got a little bit of time to figure it out, but we’ve got to get on it, that’s for sure.”

Well, with the way that production snags, industry strikes, and other things can derail the best laid plans, they may want to start on those Zombieland 3 plans pretty soon. Ya never know what will happen at the end of this very wild decade. Hopefully, we don’t end up living in an actual apocalypse by then…
