After a very successful second season, Paramount+ just renewed School Spirits for a third! The cast of season 2 included Peyton List, Kristian Ventura, Spencer MacPherson, Kiara Pichardo, Sarah Yarkin, Nick Pugliese, Rainbow Wedell, Josh Zuckerman, and Milo Manheim.
"We are so thrilled to bring SCHOOL SPIRITS back to our devoted audiences for another season of masterful storytelling brought to life by Peyton List and the incredible cast," said Shauna Phelan, Head of Live Action Scripted Series and Film for Awesomeness and Nickelodeon. "Co-showrunners Oliver Goldstick, Nate Trinrud, and Megan Trinrud have an exceptional ability to capture the complexity and nuance of the teen experience, while also keeping audiences on their toes with the unexpected mystery, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the students of Split River High next season."
Zuckerman, who portrays Mr. Martin, posted, "We’re not ghosting you — School Spirits Season 3 confirmed!! These wonderful artists are returning to Split River."
Yarkin, who plays Rhonda, wrote on Instagram, "WE GOT A SEASON 3 BABY!!!! let’s party !! like big ronza."
Throughout the second season, Maddie Nears (Peyton List) is still stuck in the afterlife with the knowledge of what happened to her and must unite her friends in the spectral and living worlds in order to reclaim her stolen life.
While speaking with Collider before the renewal news, show creator Nate Trinrud explained, "The thing that we’ve always wanted is to make sure we’re closing chapters while still asking new questions and opening doors. For us, the big thing with this season was that streaming is unpredictable. We never know if a show is going to keep going or not. And so, we wanted to make sure that we served our main story with Maddie and really make sure that arc has a destination where it lands, as we find a way to complicate everything, ask bigger questions, and continue to deepen the lore. This season really opened up so many more questions for our ghost world that we can’t wait to keep exploring and that we can really keep letting everyone in on, but it was important that we made sure that Maddie was serviced in a way that was fulfilling."
Showrunner Oliver Goldstick then added, "It has to be satisfying and titillating so that you come back. We wanted to leave that question mark with Wally. That was important for us. The whole episode is about difficult choices. Maddie is leaving people behind who may still be in peril. It’s not clear that these people are going to cross over. It’s not clear that they get a happy ending, even if she does. That Wizard of Oz element to us was really important, in that we wanted to satisfy and yet still leave open the door. What happens in Oz? What happens to those people Dorothy leaves behind? There’s one witch that’s dead, but what else is out there? So, it was wanting to create an ending, but also a beginning, as we always do."
All episodes of seasons 1 and 2 of the hit original drama series are currently streaming on Paramount+ in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Latin America, and Brazil. Season 3 will be released in 2026.
