Apple is really enjoying being in the "Slow Horses" business. It has been announced that "Slow Horses" will be returning to Apple TV+ for a seventh season. What makes that more notable is that this September the fifth season of the show will be debuting. So yeah, Apple is all in on keeping the British spy series going.
Headlined by Gary Oldman, but featuring a strong ensemble cast, "Slow Horses" focuses on Slough House, which is where MI5 puts agents that are screw-ups or in some way, shape, or form unprofessional. It's an engaging, B+ thriller, the exact kind of easy watch people really enjoy in genres like this.
The announcement of the seventh season comes right before the Emmy nominees are unveiled, and it seems likely "Slow Horses" will be picking up some nods. During the 2024 Emmys the show got its first real traction, earning nine nominations (including for Outstanding Drama Series) and winning for writing.
Additionally, generating seasons of "Slow Horses" is (relatively) easy. The show is based on a book series by Mick Herron, and to date each season has simply gone and adapted the next book in the series. However, season six is actually combining books six and seven, so season seven is based on the eighth book, "Bad Actors." The ninth book in the series, "Clown Town," is coming out this September, right around when season five of "Slow Horses" hits Apple TV+. That is to say, expect an announcement about season eight in the not-too-distant future.
