'SNL' Star Colin Jost Lands Sports Announcing Job

Comedian Colin Jost has been a part of Saturday Night Live for 20 years now and has recently been trying his hand in other ventures too. One of those new ventures is primed to be announcing for a major sporting event.

According to Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal, the PGA of America will be starting its own pre-game show for the upcoming Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black Course in New York. The "Breakfast at Bethpage" show will air between Friday and Sunday and will feature Jost as its host.

In a statement, PGA COO Jeff Price spoke about the new show, set to air at 6:30 a.m., and believes it will help bring a great energy to the event. He said that the show will be like a mashup of ESPN's College GameDay and Comedy Central's The Daily Show. It will feature celebrity co-hosts and other guests that have yet to be announced.

“There are people who want to see that energy at 6:30am, people chanting USA or singing European songs back and forth,” Price told Sports Business Journal. “It brings that spirit to life, which sometimes is just hard from a traditional broadcast standpoint to really wrap your head around.”

The announcement also included a promotional video that is now on the Ryder Cup official YouTube page. Eli Manning was featured in the video, which indicates that he'll be part of the show in some form or another.

For those unfamiliar with Jost's work, he started off as a writer on SNL back in 2005 when he was still in his mid-20s and became the co-anchor of the iconic Weekend Update segment in 2014. He has had several stints as the head writer of the sketch comedy show.

By the late-2010s, Jost was rapidly becoming a bigger figure on major network programs. He was a writer for the 75th Golden Globe Awards in 2018 and the host of the Primetime Emmy Awards that same year.

The following year he got his first taste of sports-entertainment when he worked as a guest in WWE, culminating in an appearance at WrestleMania 35.

Since 2021, he has started doing more and more movie appearances too, starring in the 2021 film Tom & Jerry while appearing in other films such as Coming 2 America and The Bad Guys 2.

In 2020, Jost married Hollywood actress Scarlett Johannson.

The Ryder Cup

One of the most prestigious golf events in the world outside of the four majors, The Ryder Cup is a biennial competition between the top golfers of the United States and the top golfers of Europe.

Team Europe won the 2023 edition of the event at the famed Marco Simeone Golf and Country Club in Italy.

This year's tournament marks the second time that the Ryder Cup is being held in New York, but first time that it's being held at Bethpage.

The tournament begins on September 25 and runs through September 27. Keegan Bradley will be the captain of Team USA while Luke Donald will captain Team Europe.
