Tom Holland’s recent concussion scare on the set of Spider-Man Brand New Day has left fans with some relief that he’s okay and some concern about what this means for the highly anticipated sequel. The scary injury occurred during filming, resulting in Holland being rushed to the hospital.
Never one to let his fans worry too long, Holland took to Instagram to share an update, and he captioned, “What a night! Another huge success,” Holland was at an event for The Brothers Trust, his parents’ nonprofit. “The Brothers Trust means more to me than I could possibly say, and I have to say a huge thank you to my Mum and her wonderful friends for putting on another incredible night.
He added, “Raising money for fantastic causes and having fun doing it! I’m sorry I had to leave early. I’m feeling better and on the mend. A huge thanks to my Dad for taking over after I left. The show got considerably funnier.” That last line? Classic Tom Holland – managing to be self-deprecating even while recovering from a head injury. It’s like he’s channeling Peter Parker even off-camera.
What’s both admirable and slightly concerning about Holland is his apparent dedication to doing his own stunts. The guy has consistently thrown himself into the physical demands of playing Spider-Man with an enthusiasm that would make his character proud and his insurance company very, very nervous. The fact that he was able to attend the Brothers Trust gala with his fiancée, Zendaya, shortly after the incident suggests that things could have been much worse.
According to Variety, Holland suffered a concussion during what appears to have been a stunt gone wrong while filming Spider-Man Brand New Day in Glasgow. This isn’t his first rodeo with on-set injuries either. Throughout his tenure as the web-slinger, Holland has picked up various bumps and bruises, all in service of bringing that authentic Spider-Man experience to the big screen. But a concussion? That’s stepping into territory that makes even the most dedicated method actors pause for thought.
Because apparently, playing a superhero who regularly defies physics and gets thrown through buildings comes with some occupational hazards – who would’ve thought? Holland told Flip Your Wig in July, “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of Covid. We shot the entire film on stages.”
He added, “Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together. “So it’s gonna feel like making Spider-Man 1 again.” Production for Spider-Man Brand New Day was paused for a week because even Sony Pictures knows you can’t just shake off a concussion like it’s a bad review of Morbius or Kraven: The Hunter.
Spider-Man Brand New Day is shaping up to be another milestone in Holland’s Spider-Man journey, concussion and all. And while we’d all prefer our favorite web-slinger keep his brain cells intact, there’s something undeniably Spider-Man-esque about getting knocked down and bouncing right back up again. Holland made his debut playing the character in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
