Sony released the trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” on Wednesday, showing the web-slinger seeking help from Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and an interesting dynamic with Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/The Punisher as Peter Parker tries to get his life together after the multiversal shenanigans in “No Way Home.”

The upcoming film is four years after the events of its predecessor, where Spider-Man asked Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange to cast a spell that would erase Peter Parker from the memories of everyone on Earth, including his closest friends, MJ, and Ned, to save the multiverse from collapsing. The gut-wrenching finale left the web-slinger in a modest New York apartment, sewing a homemade suit, and swinging out into the night sky.

Parker is also facing mysterious physical challenges due to a “spider life cycle.” Compounding this personal crisis is a strange new pattern of crimes sweeping through the city, paving the way for the multiple villains that the hero has to face. Producer Amy Pascal teased in 2024 about what’s to come for the next Spidey film.

When she spoke to Deadline’s “Behind The Lens” podcast, she said, “We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker and he was gonna focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that’s what the movie is about.”

What Is The Movie About?

Marvel released the movie’s official website on the same day that the trailer was released. The film is set to be much more intense than its predecessor. Just like the trailer, the synopsis confirms the four-year time jump. Holland himself confirmed the forthcoming film back in October 2024 during an appearance on “The Tonight Show.”

The synopsis on Marvel’s site reads, “Four years have passed since the events of ‘No Way Home,’ and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city – a full-time Spider-Man – bus as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”

Adding fresh blood to the franchise is newcomer Sadie Sink. While Sony and Marvel are keeping the details of her character strictly under wraps, eagle-eyed viewers have already spotted the actress in the film’s first teaser footage. The rigorous shoot wrapped up in December 2025 under the guidance of director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Cretton, taking the reins for this new chapter, publicly praised Holland for his generous leadership on set and his fearless performance on camera. While the movie is poised to be a massive summer blockbuster, it also represents a strategic shift for Sony and Marvel. While nothing in Hollywood is ever entirely guaranteed until the ink is dry, all signs point to “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” acting as the foundational launchpad for a brand-new trilogy. The film will swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.
