After much anticipation, we're finally one step closer to the release of Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck . The film is based on the short story by Stephen King and has an all-star cast including Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Annalise Basso, Benjamin Pajak, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, Carl Lumbly, Samantha Sloyan, Harvey Guillén, Jacob Tremblay, Kate Siegel, and Mark Hamill.
This is Flanagan's third King adaptation after Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep . However, this one isn't horror. "The thing about Stephen King is that he’s known for horror, but his horror only works because of his incredible empathy for his characters. And when you read a great Stephen King story, it’s not about the monster, it’s about the people who have to deal with it or stand against it," the writer/director explained to TheWrap.
Neon shared the new poster teasing "the mystery of a lifetime" with the reveal that the premiere date will be in June. When posting the poster on Instagram, Lillard wrote, "So excited for the world to discover this beautiful adventure."
While speaking to Variety, Gillan reflected on the story's themes and shared, "In the film, the characters seek out connection with each other. I think that’s probably the most natural thing in the world. I’ve read a weird amount of quotes from people on their deathbeds. They talk about how so many things that you’ve given weight to fall away, like the accolades you’ve won or the money you’ve earned or things you’ve achieved. Actually, what matters is the relationships and connections."
Hiddleston continued by adding, "moments of spontaneity, connection and joy become [what] we remember in the last hours of our lives."
The Life of Chuck won the People’s Choice Awards at TIFF last year.
