Steve Carell surprises wildfire impacted high school seniors with free prom tickets

Every fan of The Office remembers "Scott's Tots," in which Michael tells a group of students that he cannot pay for their college tuition, breaking a promise he made them all in third grade. Now, Steve Carell seems to be making a promise of his own, except he intends to keep it.

Attention all seniors, this is Steve Carell with a very special announcement. I work with a wonderful charity, based out of Virginia, called Alice's Kids, and Alice's Kids wanted me to let you know that they will be paying for all of your prom tickets.

The actor surprised high schoolers via a video, which was projected in auditoriums for the students to watch, with the announcement of free prom tickets to those who were affected by the California wildfires. Alice's Kids, a non-profit, did this for every senior in six schools located in Altadena, CA, totaling to over 800 students.

According to the Associated Press, Alice's Kids will donate around $175,000. The charity was formed in memory of their mother, Alice, to offer "targeted financial assistance to children" with the hope of uplifting kids and their self-esteem who are in a similar situation as them growing up.

I work with a wonderful charity, based out of Virginia, called Alice's Kids, and Alice's Kids wanted me to let you know that they will be paying for all of your prom tickets, and if you have already paid for your prom tickets, they will reimburse you.

Carell isn't the only celebrity that supports the organization. You can see the full list here, but some other notable names include Patton Oswalt, Kevin Bacon, Alan Tudyk, Cary Elwes, and Sarah Baker.

Executive director Ron Fitzsimmons explained in a statement, "Going to prom should be a celebration, and we wanted to help make the big night just a little easier for seniors whose lives have been turned upside down by the wildfires. Hopefully this allows the students to unwind and have some fun after a devasting year."

And to the seniors, Carell was sure to conclude his message with "have fun, enjoy the prom."
