STRANGER THINGS 5 Trailer Is Already One Big Bloody MASSACRE
Vecna in the Stranger Things 5 trailer copy Netflix

Holy cannoli! We knew we weren’t ready for Stranger Things 5 to hit us like a russian spy, but we actually did not know. Not until we saw the first Stranger Things 5 trailer on our screens. We know we are in for it given that this is the final season of Stranger Things, but between what the trailer showed us about the fates of the kids, teens, and adults in Stranger Things 5—we fear for basically everyone. And then, of course, there’s Vecna. Suffice to say, GULP. You can watch the trailer for Stranger Things 5 below.

Stranger Things 5 Releases Incredible Final Season Trailer

This Stranger Things 5 trailer really paints a picture in our brains. We’re sitting at Thanksgiving, sitting at Christmas, sitting on New Year’s Eve, and BAWLING our eyes out. (Maybe even in the theater next to 100 of our closest friends.) It’s back to Hawkins for the last time, and that means CARNAGE. (Just please don’t touch Steve or his hair!)

Everything We See in the Stranger Things 5 Trailer

The Stranger Things 5 Trailer Begins with Vecna Up to No Good

Here’s everything we see in the Stranger Things 5 trailer. Firstly, we get a good, long close-up on Vecna in the Upside Down. He’s pretty happy with the proceedings, walking through the old Creel House. We see a BEAUTIFUL close-up of his claws, and it seems like his minions are all surrounding him. “At long last,” Vecna says to kick off this Stranger Things 5 trailer, “We can begin.” Begin, we assume, the destruction of the universe as we know it, UH OH! The Upside Down’s vines are lush and ready to go.

The Party Is Not Doing Well

Dustin Mourning Eddie in Stranger Things 5 trailer Netflix

Then it’s a sharp cut to something else that breaks our hearts in a whole different kind of way. Dustin is CLEARLY mourning the death of Eddie Munson in this Stranger Things 5 trailer and he’s looking lonelier than ever. And can you blame him? WE, too, are still mourning the death of Eddie Munson. In fact, BRING HIM BACK!!! (We’d say it’s the last time, but it is NOT.)

Then there’s a flash of Hawkins, and it is DESTROYED—rubble everywhere. Well, a huge gate did open up right through it. No rest for the weary. But what’s that? Yep. It’s what we suspected when we saw Eleven’s missing poster. Stranger Things 5‘s trailer confirms that Hawkins is under military quarantine and the party is stuck inside. We see Mike and El talking on a tower, and he says, “We’re really starting to lose it, being stuck in here. No end in sight.” And we can’t blame him, being in Hawkins seems trying under the best of times.

Joyce, meanwhile, is investigating what appears to be some kind of Upside Down tunnel with a flashlight. And Steve, Nancy, Robin, and Jonathan are doing some kind of skulking around of their own, revealing a hidden door behind a bookshelf.

“Maybe tonight is our break,” Mike says, as we see El and Hopper marching through the Upside Down, particles everywhere. “We’ll find Vecna, we end this once and for all, together.” And yes, that’s the money shot of Stranger Things 5, Mike leaning over a table, D&D figurines in front of him, very ala Stranger Things 4‘s big team-up scene, and to the side of him, almost the whole party, that’s Robin, Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve and Joyce, Will, Dustin, and Lucas. Meanwhile, in the Upside Down/Upside Down-invaded Hawkins, El and Hopper burst into action, El runs and leaps into the air, her powers carrying her over a fence and into, we assume, the Lab. That’s TV-making magic! It feels like El is more in tune with her powers than ever before.

Next, we see a van driving toward a radio tower in regular Hawkins, and Joyce seemingly praying as Mike watches her. “This isn’t like one of your campaigns. You don’t get to write the ending.” El chides him in an intimate moment, as the Party, of course, pulls out all the Dungeons & Dragons accessories to try to plan a real battle. And then the Stranger Things 5 trailer heads into a glimpse of Will looking hopeless, followed by a stunning shot of Nancy and Jonathan watching as the sky above them transforms into exploding vines, while Nancy and Murray see the Upside Down similarly burn into their world at the radio tower.

(P.S. If you want to bring a little Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons energy into your life there is now an official Hellfire Club campaign kit.)

Stranger Things 5 Brings the Action: Dustin and Steve, Erica, Lucas and Max, and More

“He’s planning to end our world,” Nancy declares emphatically. “And he’s not going to stop until we’re drained of every last ounce of suffering.” Cut to a scene of her washing her bloody hands and sobbing in the bathroom. Could that be curtains for Jonathan? We’re pondering this, but Stranger Things 5‘s trailer distracts us with what we truly care about, Steve hugging a sobbing Dustin. OUR BABES.

Then it’s a LONG sequence of El getting ready to fight and unleashing a wave of power over all of Hawkins—possibly some kind of shield? And quick shots of Nancy and Jonathan crying together, a Demogorgon landing in front of Lucas in a tunnel, and Nancy cocking her gun and firing.

“We stay true to ourselves, we stay true to our friends, no matter the cost. ” Dustin declares, as we see shots of lightning crashing through the sky and stones floating unnaturally in the air. Then it’s a group hug between Lucas, Erica, Dustin, Jonathan, and maybe Will? With Steve watching in the background. Plus, a lovely full shot of Erica into Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan in a car with Nancy spitting, “Do it,” as they take off madly, El fighting with her powers, Lucas carrying Max out of the hospital with a boombox in hand (!!!!) as Demodogs attack, and Mrs. Wheeler and Holly in their kitchen.

Stranger Things 5 trailer Linda Hamilton appears (1) Netflix

Of course, Stranger Things 5‘s trailer had to show us a new shot of Linda Hamilton coming aboard the cast! And she appears to be shooting at a pack of Demogorgons that are attacking. Mike, Will, Joyce and some other kids we don’t recognize are together, but Will is very hurt. And bam! A huge demogorgon leaps at them. Yikes! But it’s not alone and not even explosions can stop it. Murder! Massacre! Blood! Oh my!

VECNA IS BACK AND SCARIER THAN EVER In This Stranger Things 5 Trailer

Vecna and Will from Stranger Things 5 final trailer Netflix

And the grand finale of this Stranger Things 5 trailer, Vecna himself in all his glory coming to see the carnage, more viney and disturbing than ever before! “You are going to help me.” He growls at a passed out Will, lifting up the boy’s prone body with his mind and bringing him WAY too close. “One Last Time.” And VECNA TOUCHES WILL’S HORRIFIED FACE, EWWWW! AHHH! a;ifjaf;sfds!

And that’s all we get for now from the Stranger Things 5 trailer. Let us sit a minute in silence.

Alongside the trailer for Stranger Things 5, we received the official synopsis for the final season of the series. It reads, “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.

ONE. LAST. TIME. But whose last breath is it? We’ll have to wait and see to find out.
