The holidays are a time for many things. Quiet reflection, happy family time (or fraught family time), maybe even reading ghost stories because they’re the only thing that bring you joy. They’re also, apparently, a time to watch what amounts to longer than a flight from LAX to JFK in people in Indiana doing things. That’s right, the runtimes for the final four episodes of Stranger Things have dropped and it’s not short. We saw this on Variety, and to say we’re shocked is an understatement. Keep in mind, these episodes drop on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, so once again, plan accordingly.
The first four episodes averaged to a little over an hour apiece. The TRT (total runtime, of course) for Stranger Things 5 volume one was four hours, 31 minutes. Not nothing. But we now know the four remaining episodes eclipse that.
That’s three hours, 29 minutes on Christmas Day and two hours and eight minutes on New Year’s. That brings the total for the back half of Stranger Things 5 to five hours and 37 minutes. And as I alluded to, a direct flight from Los Angeles to New York City is five hours and 20 minutes, roughly.
Why do I keep harping on the length of these episodes? I dunno, man, maybe it’s the insistence that we spend over 10 hours watching a season of a TV show that should have ended years ago, and on holidays to boot. It better be a satisfying conclusion, that’s all I’ll say now. Sunk cost fallacy and all that.
We’ll know soon enough whether the destination is worth the ride. Catch up with our volume one coverage here. Stranger Things 5 volume two drops this Thursday, December 25, and the final episode lands December 31.
