Street Fighter is a franchise that has been around since 1987, if you can believe it. That means there is A LOT of lore to cover and many possible stories to tell. But don’t worry, Legendary Pictures has tackled Dune and made an incredible adaptation out of its complicated world, that’s as good a proof as any that Street Fighter will be a total victory for fans.

For now, here’s what the live-action Street Fighter movie shares as its synopsis:

Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!

Fans of the franchise have been waiting a long time for Street Fighter to get the live-action movie it deserves. And it sounds like they won’t have to wait any longer. This live-action Street Fighter movie’s first and foremost mission is to honor the quarter-pumping, button-mashing spirit of the ’90s classic while leveling up its story for a new generation of fans.
