The Street Fighter movie is currently searching for a new director after losing its previous two.
Formerly attached to the film were Australian twin filmmaking duo Danny and Michael Philippou, who helmed 2023 horror hit Talk to Me. It was A24’s biggest film since Hereditary.
The pair are in high demand, and were all set to direct Legendary’s adaptation of the classic Capcom fighting game. That demand is also what saw them leave the project, however.
As THR writes, “scheduling is partly to blame, according to sources. Legendary and Capcom were hoping to begin sooner than later.”
Instead of Street Fighter, the Philippous, are now retuning to A24 on Bring Her Back, which stars Sally Hawkins and begins shooting later this month in Australia.
Street Fighter is one of the longest-running and most successful video game series. The first game launched in 1987, and since then, the franchise has sold 49 million units worldwide.
It’s had two adaptations so far: first came the 1994 movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, and the second was 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li with Kristin Kreuk. It comes after the Street Fighter movie unveils its official logo.
