Taylor Swift is setting the record straight on why she is not performing the halftime show of the upcoming Super Bowl. While speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Swift said she did not turn down the offer to perform because she would not own the rights to the performance footage. The 14-time Grammy Award winner said that Roc Nation, which runs the Super Bowl Halftime Show, has asked her team about the Super Bowl, but she has not received a formal offer.
But even if Swift was offered to play the Super Bowl, she would be too concerned about her fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, to think about performing at the big game. When talking about Roc Nation, which is led by Jay-Z, Swift said, “Jay-Z has always been very good to me — our [business] teams are really close. They sometimes will call and say, ‘How does she feel about… [Super Bowl]. And that’s not, like, an official offer or a conference-room conversation, more ‘How does she feel about it in general?’”
“And we’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field,”Taylor Swift added, “Like, [professional football] is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. I am, [for] the whole season, locked in on what that man is doing on the field. Can you imagine if he’s out there every single week, putting his life on the line, doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be? I think we should do two verses of ‘Shake It Up,’ into ‘Blank Space,’ into ‘Cruel Summer,’ that would be great!'”
Swift has been dating Kelce since 2023, and the couple announced their engagement in August. The Super Bowl Halftime Show performer is announced well before the matchup is set, meaning there’s a chance the Chiefs don’t play in the game this year. However, Swift has only experience seeing Kelce playing the Super Bowl since the Chiefs have been in the championship game the last two seasons.
If Kansas City does play in Super Bowl LX, Swift will get to see Bad Bunny perform at halftime. Last month, Apple Music, the NFL, and Roc Nation announced that Bad Bunny, a three-time Grammy winner, will perform at the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show in Santa Clara, California, on Feb. 8, 2026.
