It’s been a long time since superhero fans have gotten a taste of Sam Raimi’s spider-verse. Spider-Man enthusiasts were excited to see Tobey Maguire return as the masked hero in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, hopes for a new movie have waned over the years.
Now, rumors are heating up about a fourth installment of the series as Batman writer Mattson Tomlin expressed his interest for a potential collaboration with the acclaimed filmmaker.
Trying!

After a fan account joked “Here’s your money to write the script” in reference to a fourth film, Tomlin replied, “Trying!” When asked if he was in contact with Raimi, Tomlin echoed the same response.
This wouldn’t be the first time the filmmaker has teased at a Spider-Man fourquel, either. Back in July of this year, he shared his vision for a potential fourth film—which puts the friendly neighborhood character in a more mature role.
Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films. https://t.co/tXdKKY7tBu

The idea of Tobey Maguire returning as the charismatic wall-climber for a fourth movie has been floated around for years. In fact, Raimi began developing another installment back in 2010, but it was quickly dropped due to creative differences. The franchise was then rebooted with Andrew Garfield taking over as the web-slinging teen.
With Tomlin adament to breathe Tobey’s spider-verse back to life, hope returns for a forquel. If the collaboration does become a reality, it could open the door for a bridge between the original trilogy and the broader Spider-Man multiverse. We saw it done before in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given Raimi’s connection to both Sony and Marvel, it’s not out of the picture.
As of now, neither Sony Pictures or Marvel Studios has confirmed a continuation of the Sam Raimi storyline. Still, the prospect is more than exciting for diehard Maguire fans.
Until we get official word, the future of Tobey’s Spider-Man saga remains uncertain. In the meantime, devotees of the extended franchise can look forward to Tom Holland’s return as the lovable character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film is set to release on July 31, 2026.
