If you’re a parent of a young child, 'Bluey' likely needs no introduction. Earlier this year, it ranked as the most-streamed show in the United States in 2025, despite being made up entirely of library episodes. The Australian kids’ cartoon, available on Disney+, has become a binge favorite for children and a tolerable, sometimes even enjoyable, watch for parents.
Now, Disney and BBC Studios are teaming up for a 'Bluey' movie, which has officially set a release date.
The 'Bluey' movie is slated to close out the 2027 summer movie season before heading to Disney+. The film appears to be essentially a longer version of the popular show, though that will be a notable shift given that typical episodes are only a few minutes long. It remains to be seen whether the movie will play like a single extended story or resemble several episodes stitched together, a question especially relevant for the attention spans of its young audience.
There is an inherent gamble in making a movie based on a show aimed at small children. By the time the 'Bluey' movie arrives in about two years, much of the current core audience may have aged out of it. That means the film will need to capture a new wave of young viewers who are the right age in August 2027. It’s possible, even likely, but far from guaranteed.
