Just when you thought that all the best espionage thrillers of the year had been released, a new, unique series gets announced. Debuting later this year, The Copenhagen Test is a highly original new show that puts a fantastic spin on spy dramas in general. In many spy stories, the problem is finding a mole, or a double agent, leaking information. But what if someone hacked your own brain?
Starring Simu Liu as agent Alexander Hale, that's what The Copenhagen Test is all about: a secret agent whose mind is hacked by the opposition. Here's why this cyberpunk-ish spy show looks incredible, and a great way to round out 2025. Here's everything we know about this exciting new show.
The new thriller will debut on Peacock on December 27, 2025. This release date was confirmed at New York Comic-Con on October 11, 2025. The show will have eight episodes in all. As of this writing, it's unclear if those episodes will be released all at once or in weekly blocks, like Peacock's other hit series, Twisted Metal.
The trailer, which was also released at New York Comic-Con, briefly introduces Liu as Hale and shows him teaming up with Melissa Barrera as the mysterious Michelle.
Right now, here's who is confirmed for the cast of The CopenhagenTest:
Liu is, of course, famous for his role as Shang-Chi in the Marvel movie of the same name. Meanwhile, you probably recognize Barrera from her turns in the 2022 Scream as well as 2023's Scream VI.
According to Peacock, the new series will combine a near-futuristic setting with a killer story. Basically, the main character has to be careful not just what he says and does, but what he thinks.
Here's Peacock's official description for the show:
"This espionage thriller series follows first-generation Chinese-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Simu Liu), who realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears. Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies. "
The series is produced by James Wan, director of Furious 7,Aquaman, and creator of The Conjuring. The show was created by Thomas Brandon, who is the showrunner, along with Jennifer Yale.
