The definitive Oasis playlist

The brothers Gallagher (Noel and Liam) have made quite the spectacle of themselves over the years. They've also created some memorable music with Oasis that's spanned the globe and resonates to this day. Here are the band's 20 best songs.

20. "Ċum On Feel the Noize"

"Ċum On Feel the Noize"

Oasis' version of this randy, campy tune is more closely related to Slade's 1973 original than the pop-metal offering from Quiet Riot in the 1980s. In terms of great covers of all time, this one from Oasis is up there. While starting out as a live favorite, Oasis' version eventually found mainstream distribution when released as part of the 2014 re-issue of (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

19. "Columbia"

"Columbia"
Oasis

Oasis' 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe will go down as one of the great debut efforts of all time. It came at a time when grunge was still ruling the alternative music scene, but the door had opened for more upbeat, brighter musical fare. Among the great songs on the album, "Columbia" has the chops to hang without the rest of the project. There's certainly that 120 Minutes vibe, just a little dirtier and with perhaps more grit.

18. "Roll With It"

"Roll With It"
Oasis

Speaking of 1995's (What's the Story) Morning Glory? Oasis' second album was its breakthrough moment in the United States and sold more than 22 million copies worldwide. "Roll With It" was the second single released from the album and considered quintessential Britpop. A revived movement that found a resurgence during the 1990s. The track was at the forefront of Oasis' Britpop battle with Londoners Blur.

17. "The Masterplan"

"The Masterplan"
Oasis

Originally released as the B-side to the massively popular "Wonderwall," "The Masterplan ," in the minds of plenty Oasis diehards, has surpassed the mainstream favorite as the more celebrated track within the band's catalog. Noel Gallagher wrote the song and sang the lead. It's melodic, with moments of guitar brilliance. It's one track that does not include Liam. "The Masterplan" was released as part of a B-sides compilation album by the same name in 1998.

16. "The Hindu Times"

"The Hindu Times"
Oasis

The opener from 2002's Heathen Chemistry. Though the song never charted in the United States, it hit No. 1 in the U.K. For the fans who stuck with the band into the 2000s, "The Hindu Times" is a reward. It was the first Oasis single to feature established U.K. rockers Gem Archer on guitar and Andy Bell playing bass.

15. "Don't Go Away"

"Don't Go Away"
Oasis

"Don't Go Away" did not officially appear on an Oasis album until 1997's Be Here Now. Yet, Noel Gallagher had been playing around with the tune dating back to the early 1990s, when it could have been part of Definitely Maybe

14. "Cast No Shadow"

"Cast No Shadow"
Oasis

To the casual Oasis fan, "Cast No Shadow" might be considered a Morning Glory deep-cut ballad. To others, it's a song that gets better with age. For those just digging into Oasis's history or trying to rediscover the band's past glory, "Cast No Shadow" has stood the test of time. The sign of a great song does not draw too much attention to itself but remains a reliable favorite.

13. "Supersonic"

"Supersonic"
Oasis

Were they Beatles wannabes or soon-to-be kings of mainstream alternative rock? OK, maybe that wasn't what music fans thought when Oasis burst on the scene with its debut single. "Supersonic" left a solid first impression (hitting No. 11 on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart in the United States), and from there, the Brothers Gallagher and Co. were off and running. The ride was bumpy more often than not, but from "Supersonic" on, it's been quite a ride.

12. "Wonderwall"

"Wonderwall"
Oasis

This is arguably Oasis' signature song because it helped the band officially break through internationally. It also helped that MTV played the accompanying music video on what seemed like an hourly basis. "Wonderwall" was a top-10 hit in 13 countries and peaked at No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. If there's one knock on the tune, it was overplayed to death by alternative-rock and top-40 radio stations, which soured some listeners on Oasis.

11. "Some Might Say"

"Some Might Say"
Oasis

"Some Might Say" has the honor of being the first single to be released from (What's the Story) Morning Glory? It was also the band's first No. 1 single in the United Kingdom. Undeniably Noel Gallagher, "Some Might Say" would eventually be dwarfed by some of the more internationally successful tracks from the album. However, it can hold its own with the best Morning Glory has to offer.

10. "All Around the World"

"All Around the World"
Oasis

Clocking in at 9 minutes, 20 seconds on the Be Here Now version, "All Around the World" is a journey. Another "optimistic" song from the band, "All Around the World," complete with its horns and string arrangements, reached No. 1 on both the U.K. Singles and Indie charts and was a top-15 hit on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart in the United States.

9. "Morning Glory"

"Morning Glory"
Oasis

The comparison between Oasis and the Beatles is as much part of the group's legacy as the music. On "Morning Glory," the Gallaghers reference the Fab Four during a hard-charging track that seems to glorify the potential benefits of a cocaine-fueled pick-me-up. The song enjoyed some decent airplay in the United States and internationally. It's another shining moment from (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

8. "Acquiesce"

"Acquiesce"
Oasis

The B-side to "Some Might Say," "Acquiesce" has always been a favorite among dedicated fans of the band. It eventually found a home on The Masterplan album, when even more Oasis supporters enjoyed the track in a mainstream environment. It's one of Oasis' harder songs and features Noel Gallagher singing the chorus, brilliantly intertwined with Liam's vocal work on the verses.

7. "Cigarettes & Alcohol"

"Cigarettes & Alcohol"
Oasis

A lot was going on within the jacket of Definitely Maybe. One of the heavier, edgier, and notably bluesy moments is "Cigarettes & Alcohol." The dysfunctional relationship between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher featured copious amounts of cigarettes and alcohol. The track seems like an unabashed celebration of such vices.

6. "Rock 'n' Roll Star"

"Rock 'n' Roll Star"
Oasis

"Rock 'n' Roll Star" was a rouser in the early moments of Definitely Maybe. Noel Gallagher dreamed of being a rock star, shouting it to whoever would listen. It can be argued that Noel's brother Liam was the band's true "Rock 'n' Roll Star."

5. "Slide Away"

"Slide Away"
Oasis

Noel Gallagher has claimed that he wrote one of Definitely Maybe's brightest moments about his rocky relationship with a girlfriend at the time. According to Noel Gallagher: His Top 10 Guitar Tracks, the band's leader said that he also wrote the song while playing a Les Paul given to him by famed Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. It would not be long that Gallagher, himself, would be lumped into the same company as Marr when it came to English guitarists.

4. "Live Forever"

"Live Forever"
Oasis

Noel Gallagher wrote one of the band's most recognizable tracks a few years before becoming the centerpiece of Definitely Maybe. For all the issues the Gallagher brothers had, Oasis' music was generally positive. "Live Forever" is an example. While the studio version was successful (top 10 on the U.K. Singles chart), live versions have always been a special highlight of the band's concert experience.

3. "Little by Little"

"Little by Little"
Oasis

In the annals of Oasis' music, "Little by Little" might be considered an underrated track. It's one of Noel Gallagher's shining moments with the band. After Liam felt unable to deliver the vocals at a high enough level to his own liking, Noel stepped in and pulled it off. Much to the chagrin of his brother. "Little by Little," from Heathen Chemistry, did not enjoy the international success as Oasis' smash hits, but it remains a highlight of the band's catalog. Noel has regularly played it while touring solo or with his High Flying Birds.

2. "Champagne Supernova"

"Champagne Supernova"
Oasis

Interestingly, the Morning Glory closer and one of Oasis' most popular songs was not released as a single in its U.K. homeland, but it was certified platinum (gold in the United States). "Champagne Supernova" is one of the most recognized alternative rock tunes of the 1990s. It was Oasis' Broadway moment. The rather grandiose piece featured a cameo from The Jam guitarist Peter Weller and a spectacle of a music video directed by the renowned Nigel Dıck.

1. "Don't Look Back in Anger"

"Don't Look Back in Anger"
Oasis

While it's easy for fans to point to "Wonderwall" or "Champagne Supernova" as the ultimate highlight of (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, "Don't Look Back in Anger" is the perfect combination of 1990's Britpop and alternative rock. More than a ballad, filled with plenty of punch. It marked the first time Noel Gallagher sang lead on an Oasis-released song. As we've already seen, it would not be the last. The tune reached No. 1 in the U.K. and charted on Billboard's Hot 100.
