
We are now living in the year 2026, which used to feel super futuristic. Sadly, we don’t have the technology and time-traveling abilities that I hoped for as a ’90s kid. But we thankfully still have the gift of creative minds who make really awesome movies. This year’s film slate is already stacked with a lot of things that Nerdist staff loves and covers. From horror to fantasy to sci-fi weirdness, there’s a lil something for everyone to enjoy. Here are the films that we cannot wait to see in 2026.
The 28 Years Later saga continues with this sequel film. It delivered one of our favorite trailers of 2025 and will dive deep into this apocalyptic world and follow Spike and Dr. Kelson’s next adventures. And, of course, we are beyond ready to see Cillian Murphy reprise his role as Jim.

Pyramid Head and other gnarly beings will be waiting for you in the theater. This film will take one very unlucky man into Silent Hill as he looks for answers about his girlfriend.

Imagine crashing on an island and having to fight to survive. Now, as if that isn’t bad enough, imagine being stuck there with your most hated boss. That’s the plot for Sam Raimi’s Send Help film, which is sure to be a twisted thriller packed with dark humor.

Yes, the story of the famed vampire Dracula has been told a zillion times in quite a few ways. But never quite like this! The trailer for Luc’s take on this character is a visual feast and the story concept of Dracula longing for his unjustly lost love is the cherry on top.

What a wonderfully weird title for what we hope is a wonderfully weird movie. Sam Rockwell plays a really weird dude who claims to be from the future. He recruits random people in a diner to help him fight bad AI. We’re down for the ride.

This film is sure to take us down a really dark road. A police officer ends up in the twisted world of the serial killer who killed her husband. The imagery from the trailer was quite startling, so buckle up for some seriously sadistic behavior.

The Scream franchise will celebrate 30 years of slicing and dicing with its seventh installment. Sidney Prescott returns as she tries to protect her family from yet another psycho who dares to don the Ghostface mask.

Another year, another Frankenstein adaptation! And we are totally cool with that because this film about Franky and his not-quite-dead lady love looks like it will be fun.

Ryan Gosling is one of our favorite actors to watch. The guy is good at every genre he dares to touch, so the thought of him being in a sci-fi movie and saving the world works for us. His character wakes up on a spacecraft with no initial memory of why he’s there and alone. But he eventually pieces together a sad truth and uses his wits to tackle problems.

This film teases some truly terrifying haunted house goodness with images that are pure nightmare fuel.

After winning Star Wars fans’ hearts on Disney+, Mando and Grogu are ready to hit the big screen. The duo work under the New Republic and battle against Imperial forces in this film.

June kicks off with a trip to Eternia, where He-Man battles against the evil Skeletor. This film spent many, many years in developmental hell and now it is finally coming to theaters for summer superhero treat.

Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa are two animal friends (roll credits!) who go on an adventure across America while the DEA tracks them. This live-action and animated hybrid movie simply cannot miss.

There’s a lot of curiosity swirling around this Steven Spielberg sci-fi film, especially after its first trailer dropped in December 2025. What weird UFO business is going on here? We don’t know but we are really hoping it will be a summer blockbuster.

Somehow, the Scary Movie franchise is back. But we are actually feeling kinda good about it. Why? Well, Shawn and Marlon Wayans are back in charge of the franchise, and they brought back familiar faces like Regina Hall (Brenda) and Anna Faris (Cindy) to join in the fun. Maybe, just maybe, this could be the fun satire film of the year.

Andy and the crew are up against their biggest challenge yet: technology. Ya see, kids don’t wanna play with plain old toys anymore. If this film is good, it will be yet another win for this franchise, which hasn’t missed the mark yet.

This could be one of the weirdest films to come out in 2026. Wile E. Coyote lawyers up after using many failed ACME products, and the duo become unexpected friends.

A combination of body horror and comics, Tom Rhys Harries portrays Matt Hagen, an actor who is transformed into a clay being. A lot of action and some deep feels will go with this movie for sure.

Zach Cregger is rebooting the Resident Evil franchise while still honoring the games. And with Austin Abrams leading this film, we are ready to return to Raccoon City.

Practical Magic is a cozy fall movie staple, even though some of its themes are anything but chill. Now, a sequel will catch us up with the delightful Owens women to see how their lives have changed over the decades.

Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black are back in the game for a third Jumanji film. The first two films were wildly fun and this one shouldn’t be any different.

Of course, this is one of our most highly anticipated films of 2026. Robert Downey, Jr. will make his debut as Doctor Doom AND Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers. We cannot wait to see what the film sets up for the MCU’s future.
