Born on March 14, 1933 to a fish porter and a charwoman, Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, Jr. aka Michael Caine was the antithesis of the polished Shakespearian-trained thespians England put out into the world. He served for two years in the British Army, and then found his way to acting by picking up walk-on roles as a stage manager of a provincial repertory company. The Cockney Caine was no one's idea of a movie star when he broke through to the big time in 1964's "Zulu."
