The Lemonheads announce new album and tour

The Lemonheads are one of those '90s alt bands that sort of was left to the '90s. Evan Dando and company were big in that realm at the time, though. "It's a Shame About Ray" is a legitimately seminal '90s alt-rock album, so much so that there's an episode of "Girls" with that title. Plus, there is their hit cover of "Mrs. Robinson" you may recall from "Wayne's World 2."

While some younger musicians like Courtney Barnett and MJ Lederman have kept The Lemonheads alive through covers, the band hasn't released an album of new music since 2006. However, Dando and company are back! A new album, "Love Chant," is arriving in October, and the first single from that album, "In the Margin," has been released.

The album is awash in '90s alt glory, with appearances from Juliana Hatfield and Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis. On top of that, The Lemonheads are going on two lengthy tours to support the album. They'll be traversing around Europe from mid-August until the end of September, and then tackling North American shows from mid-November until just before Christmas. The lesson, clearly, is that The Lemonheads do not care about Thanksgiving.

Sure, what once was never will be again with these bands, but it's cool that The Lemonheads are balancing a tour that could just be pure nostalgia with some new work. Plus, if you aren't down with "Love Chant," you can always just keep on listening to "It's a Shame About Ray."
