The multiverse is upended in official 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' trailer

Spider-Man: No Way Home already shattered the record for most global views within 24 hours when its teaser trailer arrived in late August.

The official trailer, arriving Tuesday night, is even more explosive:

We already knew from the teaser that Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) went to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and asked him to reverse Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealing his identity to the world. As Strange was in the middle of casting the spell, Peter had doubts because he didn't want MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) to forget everything they'd been through.

But it was too late, Strange's spell compromised "the stability of space-time" and tampered with the multiverse.

In the new three-minute trailer, Peter tells MJ (Zendaya) that the only week of his life that has felt normal since becoming Spider-Man was when she found out. Now, they've got bigger issues than navigating their feelings for each other. Doctor Strange explains that the botched spell led to them "getting some visitors from every universe," including Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) and Electro (Jamie Foxx).

"For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero's identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk," the official description explains. "When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse."

No Way Home is the third installment in director Jon Watts' take on Spider-Man—behind Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)—all starring Holland, Zendaya and Batalon.

The highly anticipated film will hit theaters Dec. 17, with ticket sales beginning on Nov. 29.
