The next James Bond movie has a screenwriter and there's cause for excitement

The pieces for the next James Bond movie are falling into place. First, Amazon was able to buy out Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to wrest creative control and actually move forward with additional Bond movies. Then, Amazon tapped Denis Villenueve to direct, a big first step for the studio. Villenueve is a successful director, but has also spoken openly in the past about wanting to direct a Bond movie. Now, the Villenueve-helmed movie has a screenwriter.

Steven Knight will be writing the script for this currently-untitled movie. If you don't know the British writer and director's name, you definitely know his work. He's had a fascinating career.

It's probably better to leave Knight to writing, at least when it comes to film. Among his directorial efforts are "Locke" aka the "Tom Hardy in a car talking on the phone" movie, and the absolutely bananas "Serenity." As a writer, he got an Oscar nomination for "Dirty Pretty Things," and he also wrote "Eastern Promises."

His great success, though, is the television show "Peaky Blinders." Now there's something you probably know. Knight created, executive produced, and served as a writer on the British crime drama. Well, that's his greatest scripted success. You see, Knight is one of the three creators of...

Yes, Knight is one of the co-creators of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?." He created the British version, of course, but the show was then adapted in dozens and dozens of countries, most famously in the United States. For each and every version, Knight gets co-creator credit. Which is to say he's writing for the fun of it, and now he gets to write a Bond movie.

Knight is British, which is usually part of the equation when it comes to Bond, the quintessential British character. He knows his way around a crime story, but of course there is also the spy aspect of Bond. Still, Knight is a good get for Amazon in terms of showing that they are doing their own thing, but staying within the parameters of what people expect/want from Bond.

Now they just need some actors.
