The next "Spider-Verse" movie has been delayed again

2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was a lot of fun, as was 2023's "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." At least, it was fun until the end. "Across" turned out to be a stealth part one, and a true first part of a two-parter. The movie effectively had no ending, leaving us on the hook for the conclusion, "Beyond the Spider-Verse." Unfortunately for all parties involved, we've been left to wait, and now we will have to wait even longer.

First, "Beyond" was to get a March 2024 release that would have been reasonable for an intricately-animated second part. Then, this date was removed from the schedule. There was talk of a 2025 release, then 2027, then no wait 2026, before, finally, "Beyond" was slated for June 4, 2027. Well, until now.

"Beyond" is now scheduled to be released on June 25, 2027. Hey, at least time the delay isn't three years. Just three weeks instead. This many delays doesn't instill confidence.

The perils of sneaking a part one into theaters has been laid out quite clearly here. If June 25, 2027 does end up the release date, that's still four years after "Across." Leaving audiences waiting four years for the story's conclusion is a big ask. How many people will still care? How many people have become exasperated by the wait already?

The lesson: When you make a movie, make a full movie with a conclusion.
