Did you know that a sequel to "The Social Network" is in the works? It's true, and this time Aaron Sorkin is both writing the screenplay and directing. That means it probably won't be as good as "The Social Network" is one of the defining, and most-acclaimed, movies of the new millennium. But it still could be plenty good!
The film is not about the creation of Facebook, but is about what Facebook became, and is specifically based on "The Facebook Files," which were published in "The Wall Street Journal" in 2021. As such, this is about an older Mark Zuckerberg and will be a different story.
Right now, "circling" is the name of the game when it comes to casting and "The Social Network Part II." That is to say there are some reported actors looking at joining the project, but no real announcements yet. The names in the mix are quite intriguing, though.
First up are an Oscar winner and an Emmy winner (who really seems like he wants to be an Oscar winner). Both Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are among the actors reportedly in consideration to join the movie. White is playing Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming Springsteen biopic, and of course is the star of "The Bear." Madison is best known for her role in the fifth "Scream" movie.
Oh, and she just won an Oscar for "Anora."
Of course, the big question is who plays Zuckerberg? Well, there is a name now in the mix and he has both Oscar and Emmy nominations. On top of that, he's no stranger to Sorkin movies. That would be Jeremy Strong of 'Succession' fame. Strong is famous for being a lot while working, but the guy is undoubtedly talented. Is he right for Zuckerberg, though? He very could be.
